Dr. Sergio Villegas earned his medical degree from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine and is passionate about rural medicine and lifestyle medicine. He hopes to provide patient-centered care in underserved communities while incorporating preventive and lifestyle-based approaches that help patients achieve long-term health and wellness.
Originally from Southern California, Dr. Villegas was born in Los Angeles and raised in West Covina. His journey toward medicine began in high school after being diagnosed with meningitis. The experience of having his life saved by a dedicated team of physicians inspired him to pursue a career where he could serve others through compassionate medical care.
Dr. Villegas chose the Roseburg Family Medicine Residency because of its welcoming environment, supportive culture and strong emphasis on lifestyle medicine. During the interview process, he was especially impressed by how approachable and friendly the faculty, staff and residents were, which made the program feel like the right place to continue his training and professional growth.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Villegas enjoys staying active and spending time outdoors. His hobbies include working out, hiking, camping, and photography. As he settles into Douglas County, he is especially excited to explore Umpqua National Forest and take advantage of the hiking, camping and outdoor recreation opportunities throughout the region.
