Aviva Health Becoming a Home for Health Care Learners

Aviva Health recently welcomed two behavioral health interns from Portland State University who for the next several months will train under licensed clinical social workers in the organization’s Roseburg clinic.

Cherann Beer is a graduate student completing her Master of Social Work. Originally from North Douglas County, she earned her bachelor’s degree in human development and family sciences from Oregon State University and is working under Jared Juett, LCSW, as part of Aviva Health’s Integrated Behavioral Health team.

Alyssa Davidson is earning her Bachelor of Social Work. She completed her Associate in Arts degree from Umpqua Community College (UCC) and is from South Douglas County. Alyssa is a member of Aviva Health’s Outpatient Behavioral Health team and working under Chelsea Wold, LCSW.

“We’re very excited to welcome two natives of Douglas County to our Behavioral Health team,” said Lorie DeCarvalho, PhD, Aviva Health’s Director of Behavioral Health Services. “During their time here, our interns will be mentored by highly qualified licensed clinical social workers and learn the intricacies of providing behavioral health care in a diverse rural environment.”

Recently, Aviva Health has focused on fortifying its clinical education offerings. In addition to serving as a training site for behavioral health interns, the organization launched a rural family medicine residency program earlier this year. These resident doctors will train at Aviva Health for three years, culminating in Board certification as family medicine physicians.

Additionally, through a partnership with Southwest Oregon Area Health Education Center, Aviva Health is part of the ReConnect Gap-year Fellowship Program, offering pre-health college undergraduates employment as medical scribes in a clinical setting while simultaneously preparing them for advanced medical degree programs.

The organization is also a clinical training site for OHSU and UCC students pursuing a variety of health care careers.

Aviva Health’s Behavioral Health Services ensures comprehensive care for the whole person, which includes various clinical teams, including Integrative behavioral health in primary care, outpatient behavioral health, and specialty services. The teams work together to teach patients the skills they need to lead a healthier life, both physically and mentally.
