It’s the Season of Giving … but at UCHC, It’s a Year-round Tradition
Umpqua Community Health Center (UCHC) provided nearly $750,000 in charity care for fiscal year 2017/18, according to a recently completed audit by independent accounting firm Jones & Roth.
Also known as uncompensated care, charity care is healthcare provided for free or at a reduced cost to individuals who have limited income or no income at all. In addition to accepting Medicaid, Medicare and many commercial insurances, UCHC provides care on what’s known as a sliding-scale fee schedule, offering health services like well checks and immunizations based on a person’s ability to pay.
“As a Federally Qualified Health Center, UCHC takes great pride in its ability to offer important health services at reduced or no cost to members of the community whose financial circumstances would otherwise prohibit them from receiving care,” said KC Bolton, Umpqua Community Health Center CEO. “The hard-working people of Douglas County deserve access to high-quality, compassionate care, regardless of their ability to pay; UCHC is a fixture in the community, fulfilling a significant healthcare gap that would go unaddressed were it not for the sliding-scale fee schedule available at our five clinics.”
But caring for the most vulnerable among us isn’t seasonal: We do it every day, year in and year out. As a matter of fact, in the last five years, UCHC has provided close to $1.83 million in uncompensated physical, behavioral and dental care to residents of Douglas County, averaging nearly $366,000 annually.
We promise to continue our efforts to deliver incredible healthcare to all of our Douglas County family and friends. Happy Holidays!
